Music
My undergrad degree at SCU was Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons), majoring in Software Development, however I also studied Audio Engineering in order to capitalise on my background and experience in the music industry.
I have worked and played in the music industry for over thirty years now and started playing when I was three years old. My studies when I was a child focused around the piano and as I grew into my teens singing became my focus. As my voice broke I began to focus on playing concert flute. My first professional gigs were at the age of eighteen when I joined a trio, playing flute with a guitarist and conga player. By the time I was nineteen I moved onto guitar and began singing once more as my voice had settled down and I was able to accompany myself on guitar.
I joined several troupes including one, which had a big part in establishing "The Sydney Festival" . From there I went on to travel overseas to India where I was fortunate enough to play with many international artists. By the time I was in my late twenties I had established a successful business in the printing industry, which took precedence over my music.
Later I met a remarkable drummer "Gene Sayer" whose father was "Gerry Sayer" who was prominent during the Jazz era. From there we formed a band "Noxcuse" and have continued to play together in various line ups ever since and still play occasionally when the opportunity arises. We recently celebrated our twenty year reunion at SCU.
Over recent years I have grown increasingly interested in "Flamenco Guitar" and now have a strong focus on this style of playing. Flamenco is very demanding in terms of the learning curve required, however it is very rewarding for the effort put in. It also benefits every other aspect of guitar playing due to the unique exercises that are involved.

These three are recordings I made around 2000. These arrangements are written by my self and performed solo.
These two are recordings I have made recently in 2011 with my friend Nathan "Slyde" Petersen.
The first is one of Nathans compositions and I'm playing the melody on a classical guitar. The second is one of my compositions where I am playing the rythm on electric guitar and the flute.
This is a cassette recording made in 1995 of the first rehearsals of the band "The Touch". All compostions by my self.
Dan Myles on vocals, Gene Sayer on drums, Alan Kennedy on sax and Jacob Bravenboar on violin with myself on guitar. We had a bass player lined up but decided to do a preliminary reheasal before getting him in. As most of these players had not played together before this and some had never met. These are all first takes recorded on a cassette recorder with two stage mics sitting on the floor.
